It was the slap heard round the world, well, more of a shove, to be exact. Either way, the internet lit up when footage surfaced of France’s First Lady aggressively pushing her husband’s face on the tarmac in Vietnam. As they prepared to deplane, cameras caught her hands pressing against President Macron’s face in a moment so bizarre, many people thought it had to be AI.

But it wasn’t. It was very real. Real enough that Macron responded, brushing it off as just a “joke.”

French President Emmanuel Macron played down an apparent spat with his wife Brigitte, after a video emerged of what appeared to be the French first lady shoving her husband in the face after they arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, for an official visit.

The video showed Macron appearing inside the door of his aircraft shortly after touching down in the northern Vietnamese city late on Sunday. A hand and arm — with the person not fully visible but dressed in red — could then be seen appearing to shove the president’s face from his right hand side.

Macron appeared startled but quickly turned to wave through the open door. Brigitte — wearing a red jacket — then appeared from the president’s right, with the couple then walking down the plane’s staircase together to the tarmac.

Plenty of folks aren’t buying the joke excuse. Watch the face shove for yourself.

Macron was seen getting shoved in the face before getting off the plane as if nothing happened.

Macron has since responded to the incident, saying he and his wife were just “joking.”

“There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it.”

Macron met Brigitte when he was just 15-years-old and she was nearly 40.

One person not buying the joke excuse? A body language expert, who says Macron’s reaction showed he was actually fuming.

So, was that shove just playful horsing around, or did the cameras catch a tense moment between France’s president and first lady? One thing’s for sure: if Melania had pulled that move on President Trump, the media wouldn’t be spinning it as a joke. Not a chance.
